The GIMAR GmbH, privately owned and independent, was founded in November 2022
in Buxtehude.

BUXTEHUDE - RIVER ELBE

Our office is located in the cozy city of Buxtehude in Northern Germany at the south banks of the river Elbe and about 30 km south of Hamburg. The name GIMAR – German Italian Maritime derives from the two founders and directors Alexander and Sirio, who are German and Italian citizens.

Our core business is the transportation of general, bulk and project cargoes on a worldwide basis. Being Europeans, our backyard is of course the short-sea trade between the Baltic, North Sea, Mediterranean and Black Sea states, nevertheless, we can also trade other areas as per your needs.

The Hanseatic City of BUXTEHUDE

The old and traditional City of Buxtehude has its origin in the former German „Hanse“ – a federation of sea-going traders joining their economic interests for shipping and selling their cargoes around the globus starting in the 12th century. The city is directly located at the river Este laying the foundation and paving the way for transports by sea routes from and to Buxtehude back in the old days. The river Este is flowing into the river Elbe passing by the traditional ship yard „Sietas Werft“ and ending up in the port of Hamburg. „Hude“ as part of the name of Buxtehude means also shipping pier.

In the past Buxtehude was also known as a collecting point/hub for exports by ship of local grain cargoes, harvested in the surrounding area „Elbmarschen“ which is until today heavily influenced by agriculture.
